Hina Azmi/ Dehradun. There are many trees and plants around us which are very helpful for us. We are going to tell you about one such tree whose name is Ashoka. Ashoka tree has many medicinal properties and it proves effective in curing many types of diseases. The bark of Ashoka tree is considered nectar for women. Because by drinking the water of its bark, women who are suffering from period pain, cramps and leucorrhoea can use it. It is also considered good for piles patients.
Giving information to Local 18, JP Maithani, resident of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand and medicinal plant expert said that two types of Ashoka are found in India. There is a Saraka Ashoka, which is also called Pendulum Ashoka. It is used as ornamental trees in homes. The other type of tree is Sita Ashoka, whose scientific name is ‘Saraca Indica Ashoka’. This is a species of India only. Ashokarishta is made by removing the bark of this type of Ashoka tree and extracting its extract, which women are advised to use when needed.
Ashoka bark is best for women
JP Maithani explains that it is not only useful for women suffering from cramps and stomach pain during menstruation, apart from this, it also proves to be very effective for women who have the problem of leucorrhoea. Not only this, it protects women from many diseases during pregnancy. Companies like Himalaya Drug and Vaidyanath make products not only from the bark of Ashoka but also by drying its beautiful flowers and making powder.
Why is it called ‘Sita Ashoka’?
JP Maithani tells that during the Ramayana period, we have heard that when Mother Sita was abducted by Ravana, she was kept in Ashoka Vatika because Sita was living here, hence it came to be called ‘Sita Ashoka’. Now these trees have started becoming extinct and many organizations are working to save them.
