Yashasvi’s century wasted
Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the highest run scorer in this season with the biggest innings. Although the rest of Rajasthan’s batsmen could not play well, but Jaiswal kept the run rate going. He added 72 runs for the first wicket with Jos Buttler (18). Butler opened the account on the eighth ball while Jaiswal hit Cameron Green and Jofra Archer for sixes in the initial overs. He hit four fours in one over of Meredith to take the Royals past 50 runs in five overs.
Rajasthan’s score after the powerplay was 65 for no loss. Archer, who returned after an elbow operation in Belgium, initially bowled at around 150. In the first spell, however, he gave away 21 runs in two overs. Spinner Piyush Chawla bowled effectively in the first over and took the wicket of Butler in the second over. Rajasthan captain Sanju Simon was the victim of Arshad Khan after scoring 14 runs. Arshad took three wickets for 39 runs in three overs.
Jaiswal, 21, completed his half-century in the 11th over by hitting Chawla for a four. Chawla took the second wicket in the form of Devdutt Padikkal. Before the start of the match, BCCI presented mementos to both the captains Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson to mark the 1000th match of IPL. Apart from this, mementos were also given to Rajasthan head coach Kumar Sangakkara and Mumbai Indians icon Sachin Tendulkar. This was the 150th match of Rohit, who became the captain of Mumbai in April 2013.
