Rishabh Pant made this excuse after the defeat
Delhi’s third defeat in 4 matches
New Delhi. Delhi Capitals had to face the second biggest defeat in the history of IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders registered their third consecutive win by defeating Delhi by 106 runs in the match played in Visakhapatnam. Delhi team was earlier defeated by Mumbai Indians by 146 runs in IPL, which is their biggest defeat in this league. Mumbai had forced Delhi to face this shameful defeat in 2017. The team captained by Rishabh Pant has lost 3 out of 4 matches in the current IPL. Delhi is currently at 9th position. Pant missed DRS on 2 important occasions against KKR. If Pant had taken DRS at that time, perhaps the result could have been different. After the match, Pant told why he made the mistake of taking DRS.
After the defeat against KKR, Rishabh Pant said that we could have performed better with the ball. I guess today was not our day. We had made a strategy to chase the target. We play every match like this. It is better to play with full force than to accept defeat. Batting first, KKR scored 272 runs in 20 overs, which is the second highest score in IPL history. Delhi Capitals, chasing the target, could not bat even the full 20 overs and collapsed for 166 runs in 17.2 overs. For Delhi, Pant scored 55 while Tristan Stubbs scored 54 runs.
10 great records of international cricket… which are impossible to break, the biggest records in the name of Sachin and Muralitharan
…then Sunil Narayan was batting on 24 runs.
During this period, Rishabh Pant missed the opportunity to take DRS against Sunil Narayan and Shreyas Iyer. Mitchell Marsh asked Pant to take DRS against Narayan but the Delhi wicketkeeper wasted his time. By the time he could appeal to DRS, time had already passed. Later, replays also showed that the ball had taken the outer edge of Narayan’s bat and reached the wicketkeeper. At that time Sunil Narayan was playing after scoring 24 runs, who was later out after scoring 85 runs. Similarly, the second opportunity came to him against Shreyas Iyer and Pant did not take DRS there too.
‘The timer was not visible on the screen’
Pant said, ‘There was a lot of noise in the stadium. Even the timer was not visible on the screen. I think there was some problem with the screen. There are some things which are not in your control. If Delhi wants to make a comeback then it will have to perform better in the upcoming matches otherwise it will be too late.
