Australian hockey player Matthew Dawson had part of his finger amputated to compete at the Paris Olympics.

He got a part of his finger cut off to participate in the great sports event. In fact, there was a doubt over Dawson’s playing when the ring finger of his right hand was broken.
It takes 2 weeks for the finger to heal, Dawson decided to get it amputated
Matthew Dawson, a 30-year-old player of the Australian men’s hockey team who is going to participate in the Olympic Games for the third time, consulted several doctors after breaking his ring finger, all of whom told him that it would take about 2 weeks to heal. Due to this, it seemed difficult for Dawson to play in the Paris Olympics. In such a situation, Dawson decided to get the finger amputated. Dawson, a member of the Tokyo Olympic silver medal team, had to choose between putting his finger in plaster or letting it heal or amputating it, in which Dawson decided to undergo surgery.
Matthew Dawson said in his interview to Australian Channel Seven after the surgery that I took a decision with the plastic surgeon at that time not only for playing in Paris but also for life after that. The best option for me was to cut off the upper part of my finger. This was no less than a challenge for me.
