Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex on Wednesday closed at 72,038 with a gain of 0.98 per cent or 701 points. It went up to 72,119.85 points during trading today, which is its latest all-time high level. At the time of market closing, out of 30 Sensex shares, 26 shares were on the green mark and 4 shares were on the red mark. At the same time, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty closed at 21,654 on Wednesday with a gain of 1 percent or 213 points. It went up to 21,675 points during trading, which is the latest all-time high level. At the time of market closing, out of 50 shares of Nifty, 39 shares were on green mark, 10 shares were on red mark and 1 share was without any change.
Why did this rise happen in the market?
Due to the positive trend of global markets, the market has gained momentum today. Stock markets around the world are rising on expectations that the US Fed will start cutting interest rates soon in the new year. Purchasing is being seen in all sectors. All sectoral indices appeared in the green. Along with Nifty and Sensex, there was a rise in the broad market also.

Among the Nifty-50 pack shares, UltraTech Cement recorded the biggest gain of 4.50 percent on Wednesday. Hindalco rose 4.25 percent. Apart from this, Bajaj-Auto has gained 3.86 percent, JSW Steel has gained 3.03 percent and Tata Motors has gained 2.88 percent. Whereas, ONGC recorded a decline of 0.94 percent. Apart from this, shares of NTPC, Adani Enterprises, Britannia and UPL also declined.
Situation of sectoral indices
On Wednesday, except Nifty Oil and Gas, all the sectoral indices closed in the green. The highest rise was recorded in Nifty PSU Bank at 2.06 percent. Apart from this, Nifty Metal registered a rise of 1.39 per cent, Nifty Bank 1.17 per cent, Nifty Auto 1.51 per cent, Nifty Financial Services 0.96 per cent and Nifty Private Bank 0.97 per cent.
