Another surprising cyber fraud case has come to light from the capital Lucknow. Where after a cheating of Rs 2.81 crore from the PGI doctor, now the female doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences also became a victim of cyber criminals. The thugs, who described themselves as CBI officers, showed the doctor a fake arrest warrant of the Supreme Court and gave him mental torture by keeping him in a ‘digital arrest’ for about five hours. During this, 90 thousand rupees were cheated from the doctor.
The victim, Dr. Ruby Thomas, who is originally from Andaman and Nicobar and is working as a dentist at Lohia Institute, has lodged an FIR at Vibhutikhand police station. Dr. Ruby said that on August 16, she received a call from an unknown woman. The caller claimed that his Aadhaar card has issued a SIM card for fraud in Mumbai. He was then made a video call, in which a person wearing a police uniform appeared.
On the video call, the person described himself as a CBI officer asked the doctor to ask for an Aadhaar card number and claimed that the Supreme Court has issued an arrest warrant against him. According to Dr. Ruby, he was told that he is a co -accused in a big case of money laundering, including the name of businessman Naresh Goyal.
After this, a fake arrest warrant, other legal documents and documents related to national security laws were sent to the doctor on WhatsApp. The thugs claimed that Dr. Ruby was shot in the leg during the debate with Naresh Goyal. When the doctor denied this, he was demanded to take off the clothes and show the bullet mark. On this, the doctor asked to send a female officer, but the thugs kept ignoring them again and again and continuously pressurizing them.
In this digital mental torture, which lasted for about five hours, the doctors were badly broken and transferred Rs 90,000 to the thugs. When the doctor threatened suicide, the thugs immediately disconnected the call and ended the contact.
This entire case has highlighted the new and dangerous tendency of cyber crime, where thugs are resorting to mental abuse not only, but also mental exploitation. Cyber cell in -charge Satish Sahu said that the matter is being investigated seriously. He also said that criminals are constantly trying to trap people using new technologies and strategies. Appeal has been made to the common man not to share personal information on any unknown calls, documents or video calls and do not transfer money under any pressure. This case is not only a serious example of cyber fraud, but also states that now these thugs have also made mental harassment weapons. Vigilance is the only way to prevent this.
