While the havoc of cyclone ‘Remal’ is being seen in India’s West Bengal state and Bangladesh, tornadoes have caused devastation in many states of America. At least 11 people were killed and many others were injured due to the havoc of tornadoes in the US states of Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The tornado destroyed many buildings, electricity, gas lines and a fuel station, where many people had taken shelter.
According to reports, a severe storm hit the states on Saturday night local time, where temperatures are running very high. Texas’ Cook County, north of Dallas, and Denton County are among the worst affected areas, where seven people died. Cook County Sheriff Ray Sappington told local media that officials fear the death toll may rise. He said that meanwhile search and rescue operations are continuing and they hope to find survivors.
Two people died in Arkansas
Footage on local media showed a fuel station almost completely destroyed, with metal twisted and vehicles mangled. Two people were killed and six others injured in Mayes County in Oklahoma, the media reported, citing the local emergency management authority. According to US media reports, two deaths were reported in Arkansas, including a woman who was found dead in her destroyed home.
It will take time to restore services
Police officials in the Arkansas city of Rogers said they had rescued several people who were trapped after the tornado brought down trees and power lines and damaged gas supply lines. The tornado also hit surface traffic across Texas, overturning trucks and closing major highways, while several poles were uprooted, causing power outages. Officials said it could take several days to restore services. Severe weather warnings were issued for parts of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee on Sunday after the havoc wreaked havoc in three states, according to reports. (IANS)
