In order to create a ‘robust’ framework and synergy between the Central Ministries, State Governments and the private sector to promote India as a ‘Medical and Wellness’ tourism destination, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated a National Strategy for Medical and Wellness Tourism. And a roadmap has been prepared. The Ministry has also constituted a National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board.
Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Monday, informed the House that the Ministry of Tourism as part of its ongoing activities to promote various tourist destinations and products of the country under the ‘Incredible India’ brand-line, in global print, electronic and Releases online media campaigns.
‘Medical Visa’ has been introduced, which can be granted for a specific purpose to foreign travelers coming to India for medical treatment. The Minister said that ‘e-Medical Visa’ and ‘e-Medical Attendant Visa’ have also been introduced for 156 countries.
Reddy said the ministry also provides financial assistance under the Market Development Assistance Scheme to medical tourism service providers accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NABH) for hospitals and healthcare providers to participate in medical tourism fairs and other events.
