Japanese automaker Toyota is preparing to launch another new segment vehicle in the Indian market. After the success of Innova and Fortuner, now the company is going to launch Toyota Hilux pick-up truck. According to media reports, the company will launch it in the market next month.
The vehicle has been extremely popular in the United States and Southeast Asian countries since its initial launch in the year 1968. Another Japanese automaker, Isuzu, launched the pick-up truck model SUV in India with its popular model D-Max, which will be carried forward by Toyota’s upcoming new Hilux.
The Toyota Hilux is based on the company’s exclusive IMV2 architecture that is based on the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, though it will be larger in size than both the models. With a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and a length of 5,300 mm, the Hilux will give a tough competition to Isuzu in the Indian market. In the global market, it is available with two-door and four-door options, although some changes can be made for the Indian market.
From the front, the new Toyota Hilux is very similar to the Fortuner. Both the models share many components with each other. At the front, a hexagonal grille with long-slit headlamps and LED daytime running lights have been provided. It has been given off road capability with flared arch, cladding, side-step.
As far as the interior is concerned, the company has given an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system display in Toyota Hilux. Apart from this, its interior is also largely similar to Innova Crysta.
The company has given two different engine options in it, one variant has a 2.8-liter engine that generates power of 201bhp and torque of 500Nm. On the other hand, Toyota Innova Crysta’s engine has been given in the second variant, which generates 148bhp power and 360Nm torque. Its bigger engine comes with four wheel drive while the smaller engine variant comes with two wheel drive system.
