Five people died after being hit by a train in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Monday night. According to the information department of Srikakulam district, the accident took place at around 9 pm on Monday between G Sigadam and Cheepurpalli railway stations. According to railway officials, some passengers pulled the chain on the Visakhapatnam-Palasa main line and stopped the Coimbatore-Silchar Express train. As soon as the train stopped, they got down from the train and tried to cross the track and go to the other side. Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar-CST Mumbai Konark Express train was coming from the other side. All the people were hit by the Bhubaneswar-CST Mumbai Konark Express train, due to which they died on the spot.
According to railway officials, five people died on the spot while some people were injured after being hit by the train. However, there is not much information about the injured at this time. According to railway officials, the bodies of five people have been recovered from the spot. All these bodies were brought by the same train to the Srikakulam Road station from where the railways have taken the dead through an ambulance to the hospital where their post-mortem will be done. Shrikesh B Lathkar, Collector of Srikakulam district, after getting information about the incident, sent the local Revenue Divisional Officer and Tehsildar to the spot for relief and rescue work. According to officials, the District Medical Officer has been informed about the incident and he is making arrangements for the treatment of the injured.
Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed deep condolences to the families of all those killed in the Srikakulam train accident regarding this incident. Talking to the district administration, CM Reddy has directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured. The CM has assured all possible help to the victim’s family.
