TRAI New Rules
While TRAI’s new rules are benefiting users on one hand, it can become a problem for telecom companies. Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has expressed displeasure over this new rule. The telecom regulator has announced new rules to improve the service quality of telecom companies, in which the amount of fine imposed on telecom companies has been doubled. COAI, an organization of mobile service operators, said that due to this the cost of telecom companies will increase, which can also affect the prices of mobile tariffs.
What are the new rules?
TRAI has issued new guidelines to improve the quality of mobile services. Due to these new guidelines, if any mobile operator does not follow the standard quality for their services, then they may have to pay double the fine than before. Telecom companies are not liking these new guidelines. Earlier, a fine of Rs 50,000 had to be paid for not maintaining the standard quality of telecom service, which has now been increased to Rs 1 lakh.
Not only this, if the outage of mobile service of any telecom operator lasts for 12 hours, then it will be counted as one day. Earlier, 24 hours outage was counted as one day. Here outage means that if users face network problems in any area for 12 hours or more, then the telecom company will have to pay a fine for this.
COAI expressed displeasure
The Cellular Association says that telecom companies are currently expanding their 5G service. Telecom operators have to spend a lot to upgrade the network. Due to this guideline of the regulator, there will be an additional burden on telecom companies. Therefore, this new guideline of TRAI is worrying. Not only this, earlier the service quality report was given every three months, which has now been reduced to 1 month, that is, now telecom companies will have to submit the service quality report every month.
Benefits to users
This new guideline of TRAI has been brought especially to solve the problems of the users. Users now have to spend more for telecom services than before. Due to poor quality of telecom service, their daily usage gets affected. According to the new rule, if there is a service outage for 12 hours, then telecom companies will have to increase the validity of the users’ plan by 1 day, which will benefit the users. Also, telecom companies may have to pay a fine for this.
