Jaipur. Udaipur Holi has made a mark across the world for the grand celebrations by the erstwhile royals. However, this year the festival will be about the empowerment of women, based on tribal women. Tribal women are engaged in manufacturing and marketing herbal gulal made from plants and flowers.
A silent revolution is going on in the tribal city of Udaipur district of Rajasthan, where tribal women are making unique gulal using beetroot for red colour, rose flower for pink, palash flower for yellow colour, etc.
Women self-help groups from remote tribal areas are working hard to ensure that their herbal gulal made using forest produce reaches tourists who come to Udaipur to celebrate Holi.
In fact, Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council has created special gift hampers which have also been displayed at stalls being set up in malls, tourist places and cooperative markets so that tourists visiting these places can take the rarest products to their places. So that they can ensure that chemical free Holi is played.
Suman Ajmera, District Project Manager, Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council, Udaipur, Rajsamand said that tribal women of Jhadol and Kotra are making this herbal gulal from flowers. Now our target is to give maximum profit to these women by selling their products. Our goal is that more and more people should join the campaign to play Herbal Holi.
He said that while launching the gift hampers and posters, we have called upon the interested members of various government, industrial, business, social organizations and general public to make these tribals as a gift of herbal gulal on this Holi.
Suryaveersinh Rathod, District Manager, Rajeevika Udaipur, said that these herbal gulal packets and gift hampers are available in the range of Rs 120 to Rs 500, which can be obtained from any counter set up in the city.
