Republican Party candidate in the US presidential election Donald Trump said that for him no one’s race matters, but Kamala Harris has revealed her race as per the need and this is an insult to Indians as well as black people. Trump also said that Harris should be questioned about this, because it matters a lot to him.
Kamala Harris on Tuesday officially secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. With this, she has become the first Indian-African woman to get a presidential election ticket from a major political party in the country. Harris (59) is contesting against former US President Donald Trump.
What did Trump say?
Kamala Harris recently revealed that her father is Jamaican-American and that she went to a historically black college. When Trump was questioned about this, he said, “You’ll have to ask her that question because she’s the one who said it. I didn’t say it…but I’ve known her for a long time, I actually contributed to her campaign a long time ago. I was a developer, I contributed to many campaigns of Democrats and Republicans. Some were liberal, some were conservative, but you’ll have to ask her about that. To me, it doesn’t matter. But from her point of view, I think it’s actually very disrespectful to both. Whether it’s Indians or blacks, I think it’s very disrespectful to both. To me, it doesn’t matter.”
Kamala is the first Indian-American presidential candidate
Kamala Harris is the first Indo-African woman to secure a presidential ticket from a major US political party (Democratic). She is also the first Indian-American to become a presidential candidate from the Republican or Democratic Party. Kamala Harris was born on 20 October 1964 in Oakland, California to Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris. Gopalan moved to the US from India at the age of 19. She was a breast cancer scientist, while Donald Harris was a professor at Stanford University. Donald was originally from Jamaica. Kamala Harris worked as a prosecutor in the Bay Area before becoming the government’s attorney general in 2010 and she was elected senator in 2016.
