T.V. Somanathan.
New Delhi: T.V. Somanathan, a 1987 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the next Cabinet Secretary of India. He will assume charge on August 30. From the date of assuming charge till he takes over as Cabinet Secretary, he will work as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat. Somanathan, who is going to replace the current Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, is currently serving as Union Finance Secretary and Expenditure Secretary.
He will be the Cabinet Secretary for 2 years.
An official statement from the Government of India said, ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of T.V. Somanathan, IAS as Cabinet Secretary for a term of two years with effect from 30.08.2024. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of T.V. Somanathan, IAS as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat, which will be effective from the date he assumes charge as Cabinet Secretary.’
