Shefali and Ghosh will do well in World Cup: Mithali
Indian captain Mithali Raj is confident that young players like Shefali Verma and Richa Ghosh will do well in next month’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. Mithali believes that 18-year-old Shefali, who performed brilliantly in the T20 World Cup 2020, will play impressive innings in this prestigious competition as well.
Mithali said that the Indian team is very ‘lucky’ to play against top teams like England, Australia and hosts New Zealand in the recent World Cup.
Mithali wrote in her column for the ICC, “Shefali Verma is one of the rising star players in the world and under the guidance and support of Smriti Mandhana at the other end, she will deliver impressive performances for India throughout the tournament.” Tania is good as a wicketkeeper but Richa Ghosh is giving her a tough fight. ,
Shefali has got a half-century root
Aggressive batsman Shefali failed to perform as expected on the tour of New Zealand and has so far scored only one half-century.
Richa Ghosh is in form
Richa Ghosh, who competes with Tania Bhatia for the wicketkeeper’s spot, however, has grabbed the opportunity. The 18-year-old scored two consecutive fifties in the second and fourth ODIs.
Last time the Indian team lost in the final
India had to be content as runners-up in the final of the 2017 World Cup after a close eight-run loss to England. Mithali said that she will always regret missing the opportunity during that time.
Along with Mithali, pacer Jhulan Goswami will also be a part of the Indian team in the tournament and these two experienced players will look to win the title before bidding goodbye to the game. The Indian women’s team won one of three ODIs against England before the World Cup. Stopped Australia’s 26 ODI winning streak.
