A Mumbai court imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Shiv Sena UBT president and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut in a defamation case, but they have asked the court for two days’ time to pay the fine. Now it cannot be that they do not have Rs 2,000, in fact the matter is something else. The fine was not accepted in cash in the court, that is why they have asked the court for time to pay the fine. This entire matter is related to an article published in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana. An article published in Saamana claimed that former Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale has invested in real estate in Dubai and Karachi. After the split of Shiv Sena, Rahul Shewale has gone to the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.
After this article, Rahul Shewale sent a notice to Saamana through his lawyer Chitra Salunkhe and sought a response to these allegations. Saamana replied that they had made this claim based on information obtained from the Internet. After this, on behalf of Rahul Shewale, his lawyer Chitra Salunkhe filed a complaint of criminal defamation in the Magistrate Court and also filed a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore in the Bombay High Court.
In this case, Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut had demanded to discharge themselves in the magistrate court, which was rejected in October. After this, they challenged this order in the sessions court. According to the rule, they had to challenge the order immediately but they filed the petition after the stipulated time. Although the sessions court forgave the delay but imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on them.
