Ujjain. In the fourth phase, voting was held on 13 May for the Ujjain Alot Lok Sabha seat. This time the main contest on the Ujjain Lok Sabha seat is between BJP and Congress. In the last 57 years, Congress has won this seat only twice. In such a situation, it is difficult to say whether Congress candidate Mahesh Parmar will be able to break the BJP’s fort this time. This time BJP is contesting the election in the name of PM Narendra Modi. BJP candidate Anil Ferozia reached the voters with the tag line ‘Kaam Bolta Hai’. At the same time, Mahesh Parmar had sought votes by putting local issues in front of the public. However, in the 2018 assembly elections, Mahesh Parmar has defeated Anil Ferozia from Tarana. Not only this, in the 2023 assembly elections, Mahesh Parmar won despite the BJP wave. Parmar also gave a tough fight to BJP in the municipal corporation mayor elections. However, he lost the election by 736 votes. Congress has given the ticket to Parmar in view of his fighting nature. The contest in Ujjain is quite interesting.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Anil Ferozia defeated Congress’ Babulal Malviya by 3 lakh 65 thousand 337 votes. Anil Ferozia says that this time he will win over the Congress candidate by a margin of 5 lakh votes. Ujjain parliamentary constituency is formed by combining seven assembly constituencies of Ujjain and Alot, which has 17 lakh 72 thousand 734 voters.
Ujjain seat is also considered a stronghold of BJP. Dr. Satyanarayan Jatia has won the Ujjain seat the most number of times, 7 times, on behalf of BJP. Nagda, Khachrod Ghatia, Badnagar, etc are included in Ujjain Lok Sabha seat.
There are 8 assembly constituencies including Ujjain North, Ujjain South, Alot, out of which BJP holds 6. Mahidpur and Tarana are held by Congress.
Caste equation on the seat
The total population of Scheduled Castes in Ujjain Lok Sabha constituency is more than 46 percent. Congress gave ticket to Bapulal Malviya of Balai community in 1971 and Siddhnath Parihar in 1996 but both times they lost. On the other hand, when BJP fielded Prof. Chintamani Malviya of the same caste for the first time in 2014, the party won. This seat has been winning elections due to wave and personal image. Around two lakh people of Balai community live on this seat. There are 1.5 lakh Ravidas and same number of Patidar voters. Bagri and Berba community are also around two lakh but since the seat was reserved in 1967 till 2019, in the elections, candidates of Pasi, Khatik and Koli castes with less population have defeated the candidates of Balai and Ravidas dominated castes not once or twice but five times. For 57 years, only non-Balai people have been representing this seat.
Ujjain has been the stronghold of Jansangh-BJP
Ujjain seat is considered to be the stronghold of Jansangh-BJP, this is the reason why Congress could never show any big miracle on this Lok Sabha seat. Congress could win here only twice. Congress was able to win due to sympathy arising from Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984 and polarization of Balai votes in favor of Congress candidate Premchand Guddu in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. BJP has been occupying this seat for the last 10 years. No Congress candidate has been able to win the election here again.
