- The plant is located in the city of Enerhodar in Zaporizhzhya Province in Ukraine.
- Europe’s largest and the world’s ninth largest nuclear plant was established between 1984 and 1995.
- The plant has six units. Each generates 950-950 MW of electricity. The total generation is 5700 MW.
- The plant generates a quarter of Ukraine’s electricity needs.
- The plant is built on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnieper River in the city of Enerhodar in southeast Ukraine.
- It is 200 km from the rebel-held Donbass province and 550 km from the capital Kyiv.
- A massive fire broke out on the exterior of the plant on Friday morning. Ukrainian officials said Russian planes carried out the bombing on Thursday night.
- The fire was reported by an employee posted on Telegram. He claimed that Russian planes bombed the plant. This poses a nuclear threat to Europe’s largest plant.
- After this, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine confirmed the fire by tweeting at 2:30 pm. He also asked the fire brigade to douse the fire immediately.
