An Indian Air Force plane carrying Harjot Singh, a student who was injured in a gunfight during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, landed at Delhi’s Hindon Airport. Simultaneously, about 200 Indian students along with Union Minister of State for Aviation VK Singh returned to India by plane by 6.15 pm. On the other hand, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri returned from Hungary on Monday with the last batch of 6,711 Indian students stranded in Budapest.
Harjot’s family members in Delhi on Sunday said that they are very happy. Because Harjot is coming back. On Friday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs had tweeted saying that the Government of India will bear all the expenses of his treatment.
On February 27, 31-year-old Harjot Singh, along with two of his friends, were on their way from Kyiv to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv when they were shot four times. Bullets had hit his chest. After this Harjot was admitted to a hospital in Kyiv for treatment. He had released a video of himself requesting the Government of India to return home.
On the other hand, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri returned from Hungary on Monday with the last batch of 6,711 Indian students stranded in Budapest. Expressing happiness on Twitter, the Union Minister said that it was a pleasure to reach Delhi with our last batch of 6,711 students from Budapest. There will be an atmosphere of happiness, excitement and relief when the youth who have returned from Ukraine reach their homes and are with their parents.
Operation Ganga is still being carried out by the central government for the evacuation of Indian students from the war-torn country. Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Monday praised the Indian embassies for bringing back thousands of Indian nationals from Ukraine under Operation Ganga. Muraleedharan said that out of 20,000 Indian citizens, we have been able to evacuate more than 16,000 civilians. About 3,000 citizens are still in Ukraine’s neighboring countries. There are about 600 students in the Sumi region. He also said that the embassies are busy in arranging for their evacuation.
