The KCR government of Telangana made a big announcement that the state government will bear the education expenses of 740 students of the state who have returned safely from Ukraine. After a long debate in the assembly, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said that Indian students who went to Ukraine to study medicine and have now returned to Telangana, we will bear the full cost of their education.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao told the assembly that the state government would write to the central government to allow 740 students who returned from Ukraine to complete their medical studies.
Earlier in the Rajya Sabha, on behalf of the Government of India, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar issued a statement and said that so far 22,500 Indians have been brought back from Ukraine. Most of these were students who went on to study medicine, because studying in Ukraine is cheap.
It is worth noting that earlier the National Medical Council had said that students returning to the country leaving their internship incomplete due to unforeseen circumstances like the Ukraine crisis and COVID, can complete their internship in India after passing the foreign medical graduate screening test.
