Kyiv. Ukraine is seeking a special version of neutrality with legally verifiable and non-protocol security guarantees. As reported by Ukrainska Pravda, member of the Ukrainian delegation and adviser to the head of the Ukrainian public administration, Mykhailo Podolik, said this in one of his remarks.
According to Podolik, “We understand the effort of our partners to remain active parties in the negotiation process. Hence the word about the ‘Swedish’ or ‘Austrian’ model of neutrality. But Ukraine is now at direct war with Russia. Therefore, the model can only be ‘Ukrainian’ and only about legally verified security guarantees.”
Podolik said this meant a full security guarantee. Valid., not a protocol. And that means the signatories of the guarantee will not stand aside in the event of an attack on Ukraine, as they are doing today.
He said that they are actively participating on behalf of Ukraine in the conflict and are officially ensuring that we are immediately supplied with the necessary quantity of weapons.
“And secondly, Ukraine no longer wants to rely on bureaucratic procedures that allow or do not allow the skies (flying zones) to be closed for similar cruise missiles. We need direct and firm guarantees,” he said. that the skies will surely close.”
Podolik stressed that Ukraine had never been a militarized nation that, unlike Russia, planned to attack its neighbors. Therefore, today Ukraine wants to build a strong pool of allies with clear security guarantees.
Podolik’s remarks came ahead of a statement by a member of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, who said Ukraine had offered an “Austrian” or “Swedish” version of neutrality during the talks.
