Ukrainian army enters Russia (symbolic)
Kiev: After two and a half years of the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ukrainian army has suddenly started dominating Russia. The infiltration of Ukrainian soldiers into Russia has caused panic in the Kremlin camp. In the latest incident, a state of emergency was declared today due to heavy shelling by the Ukrainian army in Russia’s Belgorod border region. The Ukrainian army has been trying to infiltrate across the border in the adjacent Kursk region for the second consecutive week. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that his country has no intention of occupying Russian territory. At the same time, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov described the situation in the region as “extremely difficult and tense” as houses have been destroyed and civilians have suffered casualties in the attacks.
He said on his Telegram channel that children in particular were being moved to safer places. Gladkov said about 5,000 children were in camps in safe areas. He said yesterday that about 11,000 people had fled their homes, of which about 1,000 were living in temporary accommodation centers. Ukraine’s surprise attack on Russian soil, which began on August 6, has shaken the Kremlin. Military analysts say Ukraine’s Kursk operation is the biggest attack on Russia since World War II and may involve more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers equipped with armored vehicles and artillery.
Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement
A state of emergency was declared in Kursk last Saturday. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday that Russian troops, aircraft, drones, etc. prevented Ukrainian armored vehicles from advancing deep into Russia near the Kursk settlements of Obshchi Kolodez, Snagost, Kauchuk and Alekseyevsky. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tekhayi said the cross-border operation was aimed at protecting Ukrainian territory from long-range attacks launched from Kursk. “Ukraine has no interest in occupying the Kursk region. We just want to protect the lives of our people,” Tekhayi said, according to local media.
Ukraine made this claim
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry claimed Russia had carried out more than 2,000 attacks using anti-aircraft missiles, artillery, mortars, drones, 255 glide bombs and more than 100 missiles from the Kursk region in recent months. Ukrainian army commander Oleksandr Sirsky said in a video posted for President Vladimir Zelensky on Tuesday that Ukraine now controls 74 settlements in the Kursk region. He said Ukrainian troops were advancing steadily and had gained control of 40 square kilometers (15 square miles) of territory in the past 24 hours. (AP)
