New Delhi. Arguments were presented in the Karkardooma court on Tuesday by the Delhi Police on the bail plea of Umar Khalid, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots regarding protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. In its arguments, Delhi Police said that former JNU student Umar Khalid spread a false narrative in its favor through social media.
Not only this, Delhi Police also claimed that the data obtained from Umar Khalid’s mobile phone shows that Umar was in contact with some big personalities like actors, politicians, social workers and he was accused of publishing articles against Delhi Police on some news portals. Had sent some links through. According to the police, Khalid requested all those people to share these links on their social media accounts so that a special narrative could be created. Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad in the court, citing Khalid’s chats with people who have a large number of followers on social media, said that he carried forward his narrative as part of a conspiracy.
The hearing in this case will continue today in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, where Umar Khalid’s lawyer will present his side and refute the arguments of Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad. Let us tell you that JNU alumnus Umar Khalid was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case. Since then Khalid is in jail. Delhi High Court had earlier canceled Omar’s bail plea on 18 October 2022. The High Court had said in its order that the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the violence in North-East Delhi were the result of meetings held between December 2019 and February 2020, in which Umar Khalid also participated.
