New Delhi: The expert committee constituted for the examination and implementation of the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code has organized a public dialogue program at the Constitution Club of New Delhi. The main objective of this program was to discuss with Uttarakhand’s intellectuals, social workers and journalists including migrant Uttarakhandis and know their views and suggestions.
On this occasion, through public dialogue, the committee has tried to get aware of the views and opinions of the people. In this context, migrant Uttarakhandis, intellectuals, social workers and journalists have praised the decision of Uttarakhandi Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and demanded its early implementation. The Uniform Civil Code in the state of Uttarakhand has been discussed with every stakeholder. For this, the sub-committees of the UCC have held discussions with members of various religions, communities and tribes and received suggestions from them.
A meeting has also been held with the Presidents/Members of the State Level Commissions of the State of Uttarakhand and all political parties in this matter and their important suggestions have been taken into consideration. A total of 51 meetings have been held by the expert committee so far, in which 37 district level meetings and 3 big public dialogue programs have been organized in Nainital, Dehradun and Delhi. More than 2 lakh suggestions and comments have been received in these meetings and programmes. It is worth mentioning that the state of Uttarakhand is the first state in India which has decided to mandate the use of Uniform Civil Code.
