Jaipur. The Rajasthan University campus once again became vocal due to the echo of student politics. Student organizations and student leaders across the state today reiterated the demand to conduct the student union elections in a unique way. With symbolical ballot boxes and symbols of democracy, the students gave a clear message to the university administration and the state government that they would not wait anymore for the students’ union elections. For this demonstration, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also targeted the government by posting comments with a picture on his X handle. Student leaders say that the student union election is not just a formality, but a laboratory of political and democratic training of youth. A student leader said, “The real beginning of politics starts from here. The students’ union prepares the youth leadership, which later plays an important role in the politics of the state and the country.”
Student organizations allege that the current BJP government is adopting a policy of evasive regarding the students’ union elections. He says that students across the state have been demanding elections for a long time, but the government is not taking any clear decision on it. The students warned that if the government does not declare the date of the early elections, then the movement would be widely given.
On this occasion, former CM Ashok Gehlot wrote on X- “Students’ union elections work as the foundation of politics for the youth. Participating not only leads to political understanding, but also the understanding of various aspects of democracy. I myself have come out of student politics and all the big leaders of the country also started their journey from here.”
He gave former Prime Minister Late. Citing Rajiv Gandhi, he said that “Rajiv ji reduced the age of voting from 21 to 18 years so that youth could participate in democracy.”
He said- “Students ‘union elections were postponed due to assembly elections in our time, but the current government has no such argument. The government should declare elections without delay and respect the students’ democratic aspirations.”
It is known that due to the Korona epidemic and then the assembly elections, the students’ union elections have not been held in Rajasthan for the last few years. Due to this, a type of political stagnation has come in student organizations and universities.
The protests that took place today were carried out peacefully and the students also submitted a memorandum to the administration, seeking to declare the election date. Student organizations of various ideologies including NSUI, SFI, ABVP participated in the demonstration.
