After the completion of three phases of elections in Uttar Pradesh, all eyes are on the remaining four phases. Meanwhile, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization that prepares accounts of political figures of the country, has released the report of the candidates for the fifth phase.
On February 27, the fifth phase of elections will be held for 61 assembly seats in 11 districts of Uttar Pradesh. A total of 693 candidates are trying their luck in these 61 seats. The districts where elections are to be held include Amethi, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Barabanki, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Shravasti and Sultanpur.

In how many tainted grounds this time?
According to the ADR report, in the fifth phase, a total of 27% i.e. 185 candidates are of criminal background. Meaning some criminal cases are definitely registered against them. Of these, there are 141 such candidates who have faced serious allegations.

SP gave maximum tickets to the tainted
Samajwadi Party has maximum number of candidates with criminal background. In the initial three phases also, the Samajwadi Party and the alliance had fielded the most tainted candidates. This time 71% of SP candidates are tainted. Of these, 49% are those who have serious allegations against them. Apna Dal (Sonelal) is at number two. Union Minister Anupriya Patel’s party has made 57% candidates whose image is criminal. 48% of BJP candidates at number three and 38% of BSP candidates at number four are criminal. Congress has given tickets to 38% and Aam Aadmi Party to 19% of the tainted.
BJP tops in giving tickets to crorepatis
While on one hand Samajwadi Party has given tickets to leaders with the most criminal image, 90% of BJP candidates are crorepatis. His assets are one crore or more. In this case, Apna Dal Sonelal, which is contesting in alliance with BJP, is at number two. Apna Dal Sonelal’s 86 percent candidates are crorepatis. Samajwadi Party is at third, Bahujan Samaj Party is at fourth and Congress is at fifth place. 83% of SP, 72% of BSP and 49% of Congress candidates are crorepatis.

What is the educational qualification of the candidates?
- 231 i.e. 34% of the candidates have studied from class 5th to 12th.
- 407 i.e. 59% of the candidates have the qualification up to graduation.
- Six candidates are illiterate, while 32 candidates have declared themselves to be only educated.
What else about the candidates?
- The age of 248 i.e. 36% candidates is between 25 to 40 years.
- 368 i.e. 54% of the candidates are in the age group of 41 to 60 years.
- 69 i.e. 10% of the candidates are those whose age is between 61 to 80 years.
