Shahjahanpur Jalalabad of Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh will now be known as ‘Parashurampuri’. The Union Home Ministry has approved this and has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state regarding this. Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad had demanded the central government to change the name of Jalalabad.
In the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it was told that on 27 June 2025, a letter was sent by the UP government to change the name of Jalalabad. The Government of India has ‘no objection’ on renaming the name of the city ‘Jalalabad’ to ‘Parashurampuri’.
The letter further stated that letter number received from the Ministry of Science and Technology is attached to SM/28/35/2025 dated 14.08.2025, in which the new name has been reported/recommended in the spelling Devanagari and Roman scripts. The Government of Uttar Pradesh is requested to issue the necessary Gazette notification while writing the new name in Devanagari (Hindi), Roman (English) and regional languages.
At the same time, on the name of Jalalabad, Lok Sabha MP from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh and Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He wrote on the social media platform X, “Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Home Minister Amit Shah for permission to change the name of Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh to ‘Parashurampuri’. Heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Vandan and Greetings. This decision, which came under your guidance and leadership, has given the entire Sanatani society a moment of pride. ”
Union Minister Jitin Prasad further wrote, “Greetings at the feet of Lord Parshuram! Only by your grace could be made in this sacred work. Your grace should remain on the whole world. ”
