US flies B-1B bombe
Seoul: The United States on Wednesday flew long-range B-1B bombers over the Korean Peninsula for its first bombing exercise in South Korea in seven years. South Korea’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that the US B-1B bombers conducted joint air drills with other US and South Korean fighter jets. The Defense Ministry said the B-1B bombers dropped “Joint Direct Attack Munitions” (JDAM) while escorted by South Korean aircraft during the training. This is the first such bombing exercise since 2017.

JDAM bombs also include “bunker-busters”. JDAM is a guidance system that converts unguided, conventional bombs into more accurate, GPS-guided weapons. All US fighter jets, bombers and drones can use JDAM and its warhead is among the weapon systems that the US has been providing to help Ukraine in its war against Russia. This exercise is being seen as a show of strength against North Korea amid tensions over its recent increasing tests.
