Nepal: Meeting of the House of Representatives on MCC postponed till Sunday
The meeting of the House of Representatives on the $ 500 million Millennium Corporation Challenge (MCC) project in Nepal on Friday has been postponed once again till Sunday. The decision was made at the request of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba after political parties failed to reach a consensus on the controversial US-grant of aid.
On Friday, all the preparations were done for discussion on this but the consensus could not be reached. Deuba does not want the proposal to fall in the lower house of Parliament due to lack of consent. Therefore the meeting was adjourned. Nepal-US agreement was signed in 2017 regarding this project. Under this, the infrastructure in the country is to be improved and constructed, power transmission lines and national highways.
