Many important decisions were taken today in the cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The biggest decision was taken in favor of farmers. The Modi government has increased the minimum support price of 14 Kharif crops including paddy. Apart from this, many development schemes have been given the green signal. The special among these is the conversion of Varanasi airport into a green airport.
The airport of Varanasi is a modern airport and has a capacity of 39 lakh passengers annually. Now this terminal will have a new building. An underpass will be built to connect the runway and the highway. A project worth Rs 2870 crore has been prepared to develop the Varanasi airport. It will be developed reflecting the culture of India and it will be made a green airport.
After the cabinet meeting, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Cabinet has approved the expansion of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi at a cost of Rs 2,870 crore. He said that the proposal includes expansion of the runway and construction of a new terminal building. He said that it will be made a green airport for minimum energy consumption.
The development of the airport in Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, includes construction of a new terminal building, expansion of parking and runway, parallel taxi track and other works. An expenditure of Rs 2,869.65 crore is estimated on this.
The proposal of Airports Authority of India (AAI) aims to increase the passenger handling capacity of the airport from the present 39 lakh passengers per annum to 99 lakh passengers per annum.
