Name was decided in BJP parliamentary party meeting, nomination will be filled on August 21
New Delhi. Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been declared as Vice Presidential candidate by NDA. His name was agreed in the BJP parliamentary party meeting held on Sunday. After the meeting, BJP President JP Nadda made an official announcement in a press conference.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and top leaders were present in the meeting. Radhakrishnan will file nomination on 21 August. During this time all the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states will also reach Delhi.
Political journey and background
The full name of CP Radhakrishnan is Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan. He was born on 4 May 1957 in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. At the age of just 16, he started politics by joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In 1998 and 1999, he became an MP from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat.
Tamil Nadu was the state president of BJP from 2004 to 2007.
In 2023, he was appointed the Governor of Jharkhand, after which he is currently working as the Governor of Maharashtra.
Electoral process
The last date for filing nominations for the Vice Presidential election has been fixed on 21 August.
Candidates can withdraw their names by 25 August.
Both voting and counting will be held on 9 September.
Why was the Vice President’s post vacant?
In fact, the current Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned from his post on the night of 21 July. The tenure of 74 -year -old Dhankhar was to be held till 10 August 2027, but the post was vacant after his resignation.
