Helicopter crashes into roof of hotel in Australia
Wellington: The pilot was killed when a helicopter crashed onto the roof of a hotel in Queensland, Australia on Monday morning. About 400 people had to be evacuated from the hotel after the helicopter caught fire, while a couple staying there was admitted to hospital. Cairns city officials said the deceased pilot has not been identified. Officials also could not confirm the purpose of the helicopter’s flight or who had given permission for the tourist helicopter to take off from Cairns airport.
Smoke spread in the hotel
Queensland Police Department’s Acting Chief Superintendent Shane Holmes told reporters that the fire caused smoke in the hotel, due to which a couple staying there was admitted to the hospital due to breathing problems. They were discharged after treatment. He said that there were no reports of any other casualties in the area around the hotel. Holmes said that it could not be ascertained whether the person flying the helicopter had a pilot license or not or whether he worked for the company ‘Nautilus Aviation’ that owned the helicopter.
A big thing came out
“There is no longer any threat and we believe this was an isolated incident,” Holmes said. Nautilus Aviation said in a written statement that the helicopter had taken off in an “unauthorised manner” but would not provide further details. Cairns Airport Chief Executive Richard Barker said initial findings showed “there were no breaches in airport security or procedures.” (AP)
