Eisha Singh on India TV
India’s young shooter Esha Singh looks all set for the upcoming Paris Olympics. She is part of the 21-member Indian shooting team for the Olympics 2024. This is going to be the first Olympics for 19-year-old Esha from Hyderabad. She is one of the youngest players in shooting right now, but still has many medals. She has won a gold medal in the Junior World Championship 2022 in 25m air pistol, she won a silver medal in the recently held Asian Games in Hangzhou and also has a gold medal to her name in the team event.
How did you make suiting your career?
Isha is now busy preparing for the Olympic Games to be held in Paris. In an exclusive conversation with India TV’s Sports Editor Sameep Rajguru, the player spoke openly about her journey in this sport and what were the turning points for her in it. In an exclusive conversation with India TV, she said that she started her shooting journey because of her father. Her father is a sportsperson, he always wanted her to choose a sport because he believed that sports teach discipline. He used to take her to try some sport every year. Her father’s friend called her father to the shooting range. She went with her father and she liked the sport.
Won medals on big occasions
Isha took up the sport 10 years ago at the age of nine. She says that her first turning point was her first competition at the state level. She said that the turning point in my career was the first state competition that I won at the age of 11. I won the gold medal at the sub-junior level. It was an encouragement for me that I am good at this sport and I thought I should try it. After this, Isha started playing in the South Zone and Nationals and the journey gained momentum. Very few people know that Isha defeated Olympian and Youth Olympic Champion Manu Bhaker in the 62nd National Shooting Championship in 2018. She says that her goal is not to defeat anyone, but to focus on her game.
What is Isha’s opinion about Olympics?
Isha has the same philosophy for the Olympics as well that she just wants to focus on her game and nothing else. When asked about her expectations from her first Olympics, Isha said, “I want to go there and practice my technique. I have to play my game. I don’t want to go there with the mindset that I have to beat someone. I just want to play my game, focus on myself and don’t want to make the Olympics a big thing in my mind. Just take it as another competition.”
