Vinesh Phogat: CAS has given a big decision on the Vinesh Phogat case. Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg freestyle gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being 100 grams overweight. After this decision, while the Indian Olympic Association lodged a strong objection, Vinesh was also very disappointed. Vinesh Phogat had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding this decision that she should be given at least a silver medal, on which the decision of CAS has now come and they have rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal and also refused to give her a silver medal.
IOA expressed disappointment over the decision
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has expressed disappointment over this decision of CAS. The IOA believes that completely disqualifying the athlete for weight violation on the second day out of two days is a matter of intense investigation. Legal representatives from India had put this matter in front of CAS properly. The IOA has said in its statement that even after the CAS decision, the IOA stands in full support of Phogat and is exploring further legal options. The IOA is committed to ensuring that Vinesh’s case is heard. The IOA will continue to advocate for justice and fairness in sports, ensuring that the rights and dignity of athletes and everyone in the sports world are upheld at all times.
Vinesh Phogat had announced her retirement
When Vinesh Phogat confirmed her place in the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024, she became the first Indian female wrestler to make it to the wrestling final in Olympic history. However, when her weight was measured on the morning of the medal match, it was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed limit, due to which the Indian wrestler was disqualified. Disappointed by this, Vinesh said goodbye to wrestling.
