Vinesh Phogat
A big update has come regarding Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against being disqualified in the Paris Olympics. Vinesh Phogat appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Wednesday against her disqualification from the 50 kg category final of women’s wrestling and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal. CAS has accepted Vinesh’s appeal and the decision in this matter will now come tomorrow i.e. on August 9. The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) gave this information on Thursday.
According to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), the hearing on Vinesh Phogat’s petition will be held on Friday, August 9 in Paris at 10 am local time (01:30 pm IST) and the star wrestler and her team have been asked to contact a lawyer. The Indian woman wrestler had approached CAS after she was disqualified hours before her final bout in the women’s 50kg category on Wednesday. She was 100 grams overweight before the gold medal match against USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt and was subsequently denied the silver medal.
Meanwhile, the Government of India (GoI) has appointed senior advocate Harish Salve as Vinesh’s lawyer ahead of the hearing to support her. Vinesh has to confirm the name of her lawyer for the hearing before 6 pm local time on Thursday.
Vinesh Phogat made it to the finals by defeating Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez. When Vinesh’s weight was weighed on the morning of the final match, it was found to be 100 grams more, after which she was disqualified. Now she has appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) to share the silver medal.
