new Delhi. Vinod Rai, the former head of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), which ruled the Indian cricket board for a few years, has made a big disclosure in his new book, claiming that he explained the contract extension to the former head coach of the team, Anil Kumble. Why was it not given to them? Rai wrote in his book ‘Not Just a Nightwatchman in My Innings with BCCI’, “I explained to him that a process was followed in his earlier selection in 2016 and there was no extension of his one-year contract. We were bound to follow the procedure even for his reappointment and that is exactly what was done.” Kumble was appointed by the CAC in June 2016 as the head coach of the Indian team on a one-year stint. However, the tenure was cut short after a rumor between him and the then captain Virat Kohli. Rai, however, felt that both the gentlemen maintained a dignified silence on the issues.
Rai wrote in his book, “Captain Kohli’s maintaining a respectful silence is indeed very prudent. Any of his statements would have established a set of ideas. Kumble also maintained himself on his side and did not go public on any issue. It was the most mature and respectful way of dealing with a situation that could have been unpleasant for all parties involved.”
Rai claimed in his book, “In my conversations with the captain and the team management, it was pointed out that Kumble was too disciplinarian and therefore the team members were not very happy with him.” He further added, “I had spoken to Virat Kohli on this issue and he had mentioned that the younger members of the team do not feel good about the way I work with him.”
