Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said violence and intimidation over political differences is a violation of rights. It is our democratic right to participate in political activities. But if violence and intimidation is used to stop someone because of political differences then it is a violation of rights. PM Modi said this at a program of Matua community in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister virtually addressed the ‘Matua Dharma Maha Mela 2022’ organized at Shridham Thakurnagar, Thakurbari, West Bengal, on the occasion of the 211th birth anniversary of Shri Harichand Thakur, the spiritual leader of Matua community. After the TMC’s victory in the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, there have been several incidents of violence in the state. All these incidents have been directly blamed on the ruling party TMC.
This statement of PM Modi comes just a day after the suspension of five BJP MLAs from the assembly in West Bengal. A clash broke out between TMC and BJP MLAs in the Bengal Assembly on Monday. After this, five BJP MLAs have been suspended for the current session.
PM Modi said that it is our duty to oppose violence and anarchy in the society. To remove corruption from the system, we have to increase awareness about our society. If we find that someone is being harassed then we should raise our voice. This is our duty towards society and nation.
A delegation of MPs from West Bengal will meet PM Modi on Thursday and apprise him of the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The Governor of West Bengal has also sent a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and called the Raj Bhavan for talks on the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
