Virat Kohli
The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw many big records being broken. At the same time, there was a lot of discussion regarding the impact player rule in the middle of the season, in which now the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore team’s star player Virat Kohli has also been added. Kohli criticized this rule implemented in IPL in one of his statements and said that it is affecting the balance of the game. Before Kohli, Rohit Sharma had also given a statement regarding the impact player rule in which he had said that due to this, teams are no longer paying much attention to playing all-rounders.
Not every team has Bumrah or Rakhi Khan
Virat Kohli, while talking on Jio Cinema about the Impact Player Rule, said that after looking at the bowlers, he felt like what should we do. I have never seen before when bowlers think that they will give four or six runs on every ball. Not every team has bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah or Rashid Khan. With an extra batsman in the team, I am batting at a strike rate of more than 200 in the powerplay because I know we have batsmen till number 8. I think this kind of dominance should not happen on a large scale in cricket. We should try to maintain balance between bat and ball. I support Rohit’s statement because entertainment is one aspect of the game but we also need to keep balance in mind.
Virat Kohli further said that I am confident that BCCI will review this rule and I am sure that a way will be found so that balance is maintained in the game. Only fours or sixes are not exciting in cricket. Winning the match by scoring 160 is also exciting.
BCCI Secretary Jai Shah also gave a statement on this rule
In the discussion that started regarding the Impact Player Rule, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jai Shah also gave his statement on this, in which he said that we had implemented this rule as an experiment and in future we will implement it. We can think about this rule again. We had implemented this rule so that 2 Indian players could get a chance to play in a match.
