Former India captain Virat Kohli has said that his decision to step down from the captaincy is not surprising at all. They do not do any work forcibly. After the T20 World Cup last year, Virat had left the captaincy of T20. The following month he was taken over the ODI captaincy and a month later he also relinquished the Test captaincy. Now Rohit is the captain of the Indian team in all three formats. At the same time, Virat had decided to leave the captaincy of RCB only after the IPL last year. This season his team needs a new captain.
In the RCB podcast, Kohli said, “I am not a person who does too much work. Even though I know I can do a lot, if I am not enjoying it, I don’t do that work. It is very difficult for people to understand your decision, unless they are in your place. People have their own expectations, oh how did it happen. We are shocked.”
Virat further said, “There is nothing shocking in this. I explain to people, I needed some time and I had to reduce my workload. That’s where it ends. There’s really nothing in it. I’m on my own.” I keep my life straight. When I had to make a decision, I did it and told everyone about it.”
Doesn’t want to think about the decision to step down
On the decision to step down from the captaincy, Kohli said that he does not want to think about it anymore. They don’t want to drag it for another year. It was not going to make any difference to them. Nothing was going to change even in the environment they are a part of. The standard of life matters a lot to him and the standard of cricket matters the most to him.
Virat said that till a time you want to do the work which you are doing everyday, but after a time you have to understand that the quality of something matters more than its quantity. There should be more effort and there should be quality in your work.
Virat has not been able to score a century since 2019
Virat, who has scored 70 centuries in international cricket, has not been able to score any century in the last two years. His last century came in November 2019. While playing with the pink ball against Bangladesh, Virat scored a century at the Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata. Now Virat will appear in the test series against Sri Lanka. This will be the 100th Test of his career. In this series, he can end the drought of his centuries.
