External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday met Defense Minister of Singapore Ng Ing Hen and former US Defense Secretary James Mattis in Munich. During this, many global and regional issues were discussed between them. Significantly, he had reached Germany on Friday to take part in the Munich Security Conference. During his meeting with former US Defense Secretary Mattis, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar appreciated his views on America’s national security.
He also made a tweet regarding this meeting. In which he wrote that #MSC2022 had a good meeting with former US Defense Secretary James Mattis. I appreciate his views on American national security.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the Munich Security Conference will hold wide-ranging discussions on the escalating tensions between NATO countries and Russia over Ukraine.
External Affairs Minister S Jaisankar also met Singapore’s Defense Minister NG England here. During this, bilateral relations and defense cooperation related to ASEAN were discussed between the two top leaders.
During his visit to Germany, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will participate in many programs. He will participate in a panel discussion on the Indo-Pacific at the Munich Security Conference. He will also participate in the program ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ organized by the Indian Consulate in Munich and the Observer Research Foundation.
After visiting Germany, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will leave for France. In France, he will meet with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian tomorrow i.e. on 20 February. During this there will be bilateral talks between the two top leaders.
Addressing the press in Munich after attending the meeting on Saturday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted about the new Cold War-like situation in the Ukraine crisis. He said it was very different. We are far more globalised, penetrative.. The situation calls for a very different kind of approach. He further said that diplomacy is the answer. According to the Foreign Minister, we are of the view that this issue can be resolved only through diplomatic dialogue. The External Affairs Minister said that the methods of reconciliation will have to be looked at.
Apart from this, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the challenges in the Indo-Pacific are different than in Europe. The most welcome development over the past 2 years has been Europe’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific, something that is so essential to our stability and prosperity.
