pilot After facing huge disruption in flights due to the shortage, Vistara Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vinod Kannan said the airline will review the current roster system after discussions with pilots. He stressed that there was no unusual increase in the number of passengers. The Tata group airline, which is undergoing merger with Air India, has temporarily reduced flight operations to ensure adequate availability of pilots.
Situation expected to become normal by May
The company expects the situation to become normal by May. According to the airline, a tight roster with over-utilization of pilots is the main reason for the recent disruptions. There are also concerns among a section of pilots about the new contract, which will also lead to a revision in salaries. Kannan said on Friday that some concerns regarding the roster were raised during the meeting with the pilots. During this time, the pilots were told that the airline will look into how the roster process can be reviewed. The airline has about 1,000 pilots among its total workforce of about 6,500 people.
The airline will seek the opinion of pilots
He said that within the pilot group there are people with different profiles and pilots can adopt different lifestyles through the airline’s advanced roster system. Like, some like more flying and some don’t want commas. He said that the airline will take the opinion of the pilots and consider necessary amendments. The Vistara chief said, “There will be talks about this.” Obviously, we cannot have different roster systems for different groups of pilots. We have to adopt what most people agree on. We are working on it.”
