New Delhi. The case of Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque is going to be heard in the Supreme Court today. This hearing in the Supreme Court will be in the case of Vyasji’s basement of Gyanvapi Mosque. Actually, the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, which takes care of the Gyanvapi Mosque, has filed an application in the Supreme Court. The mosque committee has filed an application that worship in Vyasji’s basement should be stopped. On this issue, the country’s biggest court has to decide whether worship should continue in Vyasji’s basement in Gyanvapi Mosque or not.
In fact, Vyasji’s family has been claiming that they had a cellar in the basement of Gyanvapi Mosque and worship was being performed in it. According to Vyasji’s family, in 1993, when Gyanvapi Mosque was surrounded by fencing on three sides, worship in the basement stopped. Vyasji’s family had filed a case with the District Judge of Varanasi to start worship again. Dr. Ajay Krishna Vishwesh, who was the District Judge of Varanasi, had given the decision before retiring that worship should be started in Vyasji’s basement. After this, the Varanasi district administration started worship in Vyasji’s basement from the same night.
The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee related to Gyanvapi Masjid had knocked the door of Allahabad High Court against the permission of worship in the basement of Vyasji. There too, after a long hearing, the decision of the District Judge to allow worship in the basement of Vyasji was upheld. After this, the Masjid Committee approached the Supreme Court against worship in the basement of Vyasji of Gyanvapi. Worship is being done in the basement of Vyasji since the order of the District Judge. The Masjid Committee says that due to the implementation of the Places of Worship Act, the form of the mosque cannot be changed by allowing worship in the basement of Vyasji.
