Jaipur. Nowadays, new ways are being adopted by cyber thugs to target investors. Using social media platforms, fake mobile apps and fake UPI handles, these fraudsters are giving fake notice and attractive returns in the name of SEBI (Indian Securities and Exchange Board). In view of this danger, the cybercrime branch of SEBI and Rajasthan Police has issued an important advisory, in which investors have been given many important suggestions to avoid cyber fraud. According to SEBI, if you get a notice or document from SEBI, do not accept it directly. It is very important to check his authenticity. For this, SEBI has given some easy ways:
◆ Recovery Certificate Check: Every “recovery certificate” issued by SEBI can verify on their website “Home> Enforcement> Recovery Proceedings” by going to the section.
◆ Confirm from UDIN number: Every order of SEBI contains a unique document identity number (UDIN). You can confirm this by visiting SEBI website “Home> Authenticate Document Number Issued By Sebi”.
◆ Email and contact of officers: The official email addresses of SEBI officials always end at @sebi.gov.in. You can check their names, email ID and phone number on SEBI website by going to “Home> About> Sebi Directory”.
To avoid cyber thugs, SEBI has given some more important advice to investors:
◆ Safe UPI Handle: Use only UPI handles associated with registered banks for investment, such as @Valid (bank-name).
◆ Whitisted apps: Use only those broker apps which are included in the list of “Whitelisted Broker Apps” published by SEBI on the stock exchange.
◆ Caution on social media: SEBI only gives official information and advice on its registered “X” handle. Stay away from suspicious advertisements on other social media platforms.
If you are a victim of any type of cyber fraud, call the cyber helpline number 1930 or file a complaint on https://cybercrime.gov.in.
Reports can also be made at the nearest police station or cyber police station. It is important that you protect your hard earned money with your caution.
