Sriganganagar. In connection with the supply of water for irrigation in Gangahar, the Superintendent Engineer, Water Resources Curry Sriganganagar and Shivcharan Regar, Superintendent Engineer (Work) Office Chief Engineer, Water Resources, North, Hanumangarh visited the Pong Dam area and inspected the works going on there.
Superintendent Engineer Dheeraj Chawla of Water Resources Circle said that the Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer of Punjab were also present during the visit. Work under the tunnel in Pong Dam was running at a rapid pace. About 165 workers were employed on work. After inspection, a meeting was held with the Superintending Engineer concerned. It was discussed in the meeting that how much more can be taken down to the level of the dam so that water can be provided to the tenants of Gangahar region for crop seeds.
He told that it is not possible to degrade the level that is currently going on, because this level is necessary to apply and remove bulk heads. The monsoon in the Pong Dam area comes around July 10. As soon as the work is over, it will be possible to provide water by degrading the level of the dam.
He said that Punjab Irrigation officials were requested to complete the works as soon as possible so that the dam level could be reduced to get adequate water by lowering the dam. Punjab officials assured that efforts are being made to complete the work as soon as possible by applying maximum labor.
After this, the team of officers reached Jalandhar. The dirty water of Jalandhar and Nakodar is also flowed into the canal. In this regard, dirty water was discussed while meeting with Sartaj Singh Randhawa, Executive Engineer of Drainage section in Jalandhar. He informed that the dirty water poured into Chitti and Kali Drains is being closed. Clear instructions have been given by the Punjab Irrigation Secretary that after inspection, wherever dirty water is being poured, it should be completely closed.
Chawla told that at present STP The situation will be improved after their fully operational. The place where the dirty water of the Chitti drain is found by the team was also inspected.
