A massive landslide has occurred in Wayanad, Kerala. Many people have been buried under the debris due to the land slide. The death toll in this accident has reached 60 so far. It is believed that this figure may increase further. According to the information, a landslide has occurred on Meppadi, Mubadakkai and Chooral Mala hills in Wayanad since 1 am on Tuesday night. When did the landslide happen

According to the information received so far, the first landslide occurred in Mubadakkai at 1 am in Wayanad. The next landslide occurred at Chooral Mala at 4 am. Rescue operations were underway there at that time. A school serving as a camp, a house, a school bus all reportedly got flooded and filled with mud and water.

Helpline number released

The health department has set up a control room. The government has issued helpline numbers 9656938689 and 8086010833 for any emergency assistance. According to the information, the most damage due to the landslide has occurred in Choorlamla and Mundakkai villages. A part of these two villages has been washed away due to the land slide. Many houses including a resort, some home stays have been buried under the debris of the land slide. Due to the breakdown of the bridge on the river, the rescue team is not able to reach Mundakkai village. Due to adverse weather, helicopters are also not able to reach there.

400 families stranded

According to reports, about 400 families are stranded after a bridge collapsed in Chural Mala town. Many people are reported to be injured and many houses have been washed away. The extent of damage cannot be estimated at the moment due to power outage in the entire area.

Rescue operation continues

250 members of fire brigade, rescue, civil defence, NDRF and local emergency response team are carrying out rescue operations at the landslide site. The Kerala government has sought rescue troops of 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) Madras.
