The death toll in the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala has crossed 350. This natural disaster has rendered hundreds of people homeless in Wayanad. Relief and rescue operations are still going on in the affected areas of Wayanad. Meanwhile, different organizations are coming forward to help the affected people of Wayanad in their own way. The Finance Ministry has given special instructions to all insurance companies to help the affected people in Wayanad.
Insurance companies were instructed to settle claims as soon as possible
The Finance Ministry on Saturday directed public sector insurance companies, including LIC, to disburse claim amounts to landslide victims and their families in Wayanad and other districts of Kerala as soon as possible. The Finance Ministry said in a post on X that insurance companies have started efforts to reach out to their customers through various newspapers, social media, websites, SMS to provide contact details for help in Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur districts. A large number of claims are being made in these districts of Kerala.
Finance Ministry expressed grief over the incident in Vaivad
The ministry said, “In view of the unfortunate landslide incident and heavy rainfall in Kerala, the government has ordered public sector insurance companies including LIC, National Insurance Corporation, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance to provide all possible assistance to the disaster victims so that insurance claims can be processed and paid quickly.
Companies will remain in touch with the General Insurance Council
The ministry said that LIC has been asked to distribute the claim amount to the policyholders under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana as soon as possible. The General Insurance Council will coordinate with the insurance companies to ensure that the insurance claims are settled and paid quickly.
