Wayanad. Relief and rescue work is still going on after the landslide due to heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala. Army, Navy and Air Force are engaged in this relief work. According to media reports, about 150 bodies have been recovered here. About 100 people are still reported missing. In such a situation, the death toll may increase. 128 people are reported to be injured in the landslide. The Kerala government has declared 2 days of state mourning after this disaster.

There were two massive landslides in Mundakkai, Wayanad, at 2 am and then at 4.10 am on Sunday night. Due to this, rocks and debris came down from the mountain to Choorlamala. How dangerous the landslide was can be known from the fact that apart from Choorlamala, many settlements in Meppadi, Mundakkai, Attamala and Noolpuzha were buried under the debris. 4 villages were washed away in this landslide. The most devastation has occurred in Choorlamala of Wayanad. After the landslide, the speed of debris and rocks was so fast that the bodies of 16 people who were washed away by the Chaliyar river were also found in Pothukallu of Mallapuram, about 50 km from Mundakkai. In an attempt to save the people trapped in this disaster in Wayanad, the army has deployed 225 soldiers. Apart from these, 250 people from the police, fire department, NDRF, SDRF and civil defense are also engaged in rescue work. The Air Force has also deployed two helicopters to help in the rescue operations.

After the natural disaster in Wayanad, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to the people to unite and help the affected. He has said that the way people united and helped the affected after the flood damage in Kerala in the year 2018, they should do the same now. Pinarayi Vijayan has asked people to donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. According to the Kerala CM, people are offering help, but a lot of money is going to be needed to save people again and improve their lives in the disaster-affected areas of Wayanad. According to Pinarayi Vijayan, 45 camps have been set up to provide relief and around 3000 people have been kept there. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 crore to Kerala. At the same time, Cochin International Airport Limited has said to give help of 2 crores. The central government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
