Know today’s weather update
According to IMD, the effect of western disturbance is visible on the weather. The Western Himalayan region has been significantly affected by the weak Western Disturbance. In many parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka, the temperature is being recorded between 35 and 39 degrees. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the northeastern states for the next three days. There is an alert of heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh today and tomorrow. Rest of the places will remain mostly dry. Absence of Western Disturbance, dry weather in plains has resulted in above normal maximum temperature in Northwest India. IMD said that the temperature in North-West India, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa can be recorded 5-7 degree Celsius above normal even further.
The Meteorological Department has already sounded the alarm
Last year, the IMD issued a heat wave alert in the month of March. After that there was a terrible heat. The maximum temperature in many states destroyed all previous records. This year, the Meteorological Department has issued heat wave alerts at many places in February itself. For the first time, heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of western India on Sunday. The temperature that is currently being recorded in most parts of the country is usually seen in mid-March. The season of spring has already disappeared. There is also a possibility of El Nino coming this year. It will only increase the heat.
Why rising temperature is a matter of concern
The IMD warned on Monday that crops in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan could be affected due to high temperature. Agricultural scientists have already expressed apprehension of wheat crop being affected. The Central Government has formed a committee to monitor the situation arising due to rise in temperature on the wheat crop. Apart from wheat, other standing crops and horticulture can also be affected by the heat wave. Last year, after the increased demand for electricity in the summer season, there was also a shortage of coal.
Danger due to difference in day and night temperature
The day temperature in Delhi-NCR crosses 30 degree Celsius. At night it falls to 15-16 degrees. The difference in minimum and maximum temperature has increased the risk of ill health. Be it private or public, such patients are reaching doctors who have sore throat, cold or fever. Cases of respiratory tract infection, diarrhea and gastroenteritis have increased. According to health experts, the heat during the day helps bacteria to grow faster.
What is the effect on health?
According to Dr. Deepak Baid, heat wave usually includes dehydration, exhaustion, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, and profuse sweating. Heat wave can also cause mental stress. Symptoms of heat stroke can include body stiffness, swelling, fainting, and fever. If the body temperature is 40 °C or more, seizures may occur or the person may even go into a coma.
