dispute over ordinance
The Centre’s ordinance, which allegedly curtails the authority of the state government in Delhi, is currently the biggest bone of contention between the two parties. The Aam Aadmi Party says that all opposition parties, except the Congress, supported them on this issue. In such a situation, the party alleges that the Congress is seen siding with the BJP. Congress says that without thinking how can they clear their stand on a bill. Along with this, senior leaders of the party had also said in the meeting in Patna on June 23 that no central leader has so far spoken of opposing or supporting the bill. Also, on the day the central government brought the ordinance, the Congress had condemned the move in an official statement.
action of investigative agencies
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress have been taking different stand regarding the pressure of investigative agencies on the opposition parties. When the pressure of agencies increased on Congress leaders, AAP stayed away from the issue. Similarly, when the pressure on AAP leaders increased in Delhi regarding the liquor policy, the Congress supported it. But now both the parties have more or less the same stand on this issue. When Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Parliament, Kejriwal opposed the decision.
an opinion on these issues
Barring these few issues, the opinion of both the parties has been the same on all other issues in the recent past. For example, whether it is the farmer’s movement or the wrestler’s movement or the issue related to Adani in the Parliament. In the last session, the Aam Aadmi Party has also been present in all the meetings called by the Congress during the Parliament session.
more political disputes
In such a situation, the matter of partnership or making a dent in the political space has become more of a reason for disputes. The Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Delhi and later in Punjab by usurping the Congress space. Congress is the real target in the exercise of Aam Aadmi Party to spread its foot in other states. In such a situation, Congress does not want to lose much of its space. Also, there is an opinion within the party that aggressive initiatives should be taken to regain its position in Delhi and Punjab as well. This is the reason behind the fierce tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress at times. Although just before the general elections in 2019, there was an agreement between the two parties to fight together on seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, but the matter could not be worked out at the last moment. In such a situation, most of the opposition parties believe that despite some hindrances, the door for talks between the two parties can remain open in the 2024 general elections.
