Russian President Vladimir Putin
St. Petersburg: There seems to be no change in the relations between America and Russia. Regarding the presidential election in America, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that no matter who wins the US presidential election, there will be no change in Russia-America relations. Putin said this while answering questions from journalists of international news agencies including Associated Press on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Putin said that if Donald Trump wins the presidency in November, he does not expect any major change in American policy towards Russia, but he did not rule out the possibility of a change in thinking.
‘We don’t care’
When asked by Reuters if he thought the outcome of the US election would make a difference to Moscow, Vladimir Putin said, “Basically, we don’t care (who wins). We have never had any special relationship with Trump, the fact is that as president he introduced massive sanctions on Russia, he withdrew from the treaty on medium- and short-range missiles,” Putin said.
‘we will work’
Vladimir Putin said, “I am saying honestly that, we believe that after the elections there will be some change in American policy towards Russia, I would not say that. We do not think so. We think that nothing serious will really happen.” Putin said, “Whoever the people of America will choose as President, we will work with him.”
Putin did not answer
The Russian leader has used the annual forum to showcase Russia’s development and attract investors. Putin did not answer questions from Western journalists at the event in St. Petersburg, the first time he has been sent troops into Ukraine.
